Guus Jooss

The Dutch sculptor Guus Jooss worked for over 20 years with Italian marble. The forms of his works relate to music and dance, showing movement, rhythm, and harmony line. As an artist he has a mission to let the matter come to life with an idea. Guus Jooss is fascinated by the play of shapes. Each work is the result of an investigation that runs through the entire creative process and is only completed when all shapes form a plastic unit.

Huguette Helmann – Painting and Sculpture

Born in Brussels in 1939, Huguette Helmann worked since her earliest childhood with artistic expression. This she could develop during her seven-year study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels.

As a professor of drawing at the Royal College of Ganshoren, she maintained contact with artistic circles, and is enrolled in the Academy of Roger Somville Boitsfort.

She attended the workshop of Daniel Van den Driessche. Over the years, numerous works have been created where her passion is expressed in the use of bright colors. Her expressive power and accuracy of the attitudes are particularly evident in the sculptures, their bulls, nudes and portraits.

Huguette Helmann's artistic journey began with the painting. She painted nudes, landscapes, flowers, in large spiritual compositions. This was followed by the sculpture. She modeled acts, then angels, then bulls, last ones inspired by her partner, who was a portugese bullfighter. She returned to painting and started with woodcuts.

"My work is constantly changing. Just like I'm on the road to change, so also becomes my creation, and also the techniques and my way of expressing myself."
Whatever her means of expression is, in her work Huguette Helmann always explores the expression of movement and light.

The material of the sculptor Ulrich Krämer is steel. Krämer was born in a "steel-region," the Ruhr. His material, which is usually reserved for industrial processes, unfolds in surprising new forms by the playful and passionate hand of touch of the artist. In spite of the hardness and impact of the material, Krämer manages to create delicate surfaces and soft, vulnerable designed shapes.

This contrast is one of the intentions of Ulrich Krämer’s work. The rough surfaces are the result of degradation, an energy that fascinates the artist. Destruction is a prerequisite, and thus part of any transformation, and is celebrated with joy by Krämer. By the process of destruction, the differences and contradictions of life become integrated. His sculptures convey an unconventionality that is beyond smooth and decorated surfaces.
