Allmuth Lenz is moving with her works between photography and painting. In order to come closer to her inner images of atmospheric landscapes, she looks for the combination of the two and plays with the possibilities of painting with the camera. Thus she discovered the possibilities of the pinhole camera, also called Camera Obscura, with its own appeal of blur.
The pinhole camera is the oldest form of photography. The image is produced solely by incident of light through a small hole on to a photosensitive medium. Almuth Lenz produces the deliberate blur of the photographs through shooting freehand without a tripod and using very long exposure times.
Allmuth Lenz was born in Hamburg in 1958.
While studying medicine, she worked with artistic black and white photography. After her studies she discovered the color photography. Since 1995 she has devoted herself - besides the photography - to painting. Since 2002, her photographs are created more and more with the Camera Obscura. In experimental way of working, she combines analog and digital photography with painting.
